ART IMITATING LIFE on MISO: Baebijang-Jeon

Recognising the growing clamour for Korean culture in Malaysia was the impetus to hold the elegantly performed MISO: Baebijang-Jeon, a traditional Korean art performance based on a satirical novel from the Joseon Dynasty. JeongDong Theater has masterfully represented Korean art performance by selecting MISO: Baebijang-Jeon as a means to reach out not only to the selected few who appreciate cultural art but has bridged the gap of connecting to the youth.

For those who had not had the opportunity to watch the performance, MISO: Baebijang-Jeon is a simple story revolving around Secertary Bae, wrapped in the esteem of his highly regarded government position who shuns social activities and loyalty was put to the test by his superior if love can indeed conquer all. Experiencing MISO: Baebijang-Jeon with my own eyes was like travelling back in time when performances were real and one can immerse in the scenes and sequence where emotions run high and the thrill of the music beats within your skin. Colorful, majestic and enthralling best describe what the dancing and singing was all about. More than the steps, it was the expression and the feeling that the performers successfully exuded of which the audiences have felt.

Kudos to IME Production for bringing to Malaysia such a wonderful and authentic art performance. This emphasised that Korean Performing Arts is the reason why people all over the world now love and appreciate not just Korean actors, actresses, movies and dramas, but rather get hooked on such a diverse culture and how they have made art imitate life!
