Every time walking around in Kuala Lumpur, especially on Friday, reminds us of Koreans who starts to plan their weekend activities on Friday. Talking about it, do you know that every night of the weekend, you can enjoy watching live street performances in Seoul? Known for 'THE' best places to watch live street performance, Hongdae and Sinchon are always packed with fans, couples and scouters from all over Seoul.
Starting around 6PM and ending around midnight, enthusiastic music fans start to gather around Hongdae and Sinchon looking forward to their favourite street performances. These indie groups can usually be seen performing along the streets of Hongdae and the most popular groups always perform at the ’hot spot’ which is at the center of Hongdae. While in Sinchon, the groups usually perform at the designated place which is in front of the 'UPlex’, a shopping mall that is connected to the subway station. Do you know that sometimes they block the bus lane to perform their performance?
The audiences, especially the university students, will gather in front the place to enjoy their performance while having a good time with their friends and loved ones. These indie groups do have their own fan base... And it’s true! Some of them even do fans services to their fans and surprisingly they are more popular than the newly debuted groups. Besides that, they will update their performance on their Facebook page and some of the groups have even joined a couple of TV show competitions such as 'Super Star K’ and others. Students from nearby universities such as Hongik University and Yonsei University do showcase their talents for fun in Hongdae and Sinchon.
People who come to enjoy the music will be entertained with several genres of music such as rock, a cappella, ballad and request songs from the audiences. During this time also, we can see how good the performer are, as they interact with the audiences. Having good music to enjoy besides spending some time with their friends makes their weekends more enjoyable. It is one of the most memorable experiences that foreigners as well as Koreans themselves can encounter.
